In Greek mythology, the Amazons are a nation of women warriors living on the shores of the Black Sea.

The Amazon has an historical origin: they correspond to the Scythian warrior women and people sarmates.

According to legend, the Amazons inhabit the banks of the river Thermodon in Cappadocia in what is now Turkey. They kill their male children or make them blind and lame, and then use them as servants. As for women, they cut their right breast to facilitate archery. To ensure the continuity of their civilization, they come together once a year with men of neighboring tribes in which they choose the best.
